Structure of the Cambridge Programme

The structure of the Cambridge System at IOANID School is organised as follows:

Grades 9–10: IGCSE

Students follow a broad academic programme of nine to ten subjects, with selected options that allow for individual interests and strengths.

Grades 11–12: AS & A Level

Students specialise in three or four subjects, enabling focused, in-depth study aligned with their intended university pathways.

IGCSE – Grades 9 and 10

The IGCSE programme is delivered over two academic years, in Grades 9 and 10, with final examinations taken at the end of Grade 10. The curriculum includes both compulsory and optional subjects, and students are carefully guided in making informed choices aligned with their strengths and future plans.

A Level – Grades 11 and 12 (Sixth Form)

The A Level programme is delivered in Grades 11 and 12 and marks a significant progression in academic depth, independence, and responsibility. Students begin with Advanced Subsidiary (AS) courses in Grade 11 and continue selected subjects to full Advanced/A Level in Grade 12.

Students typically study four subjects in Grade 11 and three in Grade 12. In addition, they have the opportunity to complete an IPQ (International Project Qualification) on a subject of their choice, further developing research, analytical, and independent study skills.

Subjects and Academic Options

IGCSE (Grades 9–10)

Core subjects include Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Co-ordinated Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), and a Modern Foreign Language.

In addition, Grade 9 students select three optional subjects from: Computer Science, Global Perspectives, History, Business Studies, and Economics.

Successful completion of the IGCSE programme provides the academic foundation required for progression to A Level in Grades 11 and 12.

 

A Level (Grades 11–12)

The range of A Level subjects at IOANID School continues to expand. The programme is delivered over two years and leads to qualifications recognised by universities worldwide. In Romania, CNRED provides equivalation for access to Romanian universities.

Students choose three or four subjects from the following: Pure Mathematics and Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Psychology, Sociology, History, English Literature, Spanish, German, Economics, and Business Studies.

Students may also complete an IPQ (International Project Qualification) on a subject of their choice, equivalent in scope to the IB Extended Essay or a university-style dissertation.

Assessment and Cambridge Examinations

Assessment at The Cambridge System at IOANID School is based on externally set and externally marked Cambridge examinations. Student performance is evaluated objectively and consistently in line with Cambridge’s standardised assessment criteria.

Final grades are awarded directly by Cambridge and are not determined internally by the school, reflecting the independent and rigorous nature of the examination process.

Academic honesty is fundamental. Any breach of examination regulations or academic integrity may result in sanctions imposed by Cambridge, including possible disqualification from examinations.

Results and International Recognition

Results achieved by students in The Cambridge System at IOANID School are awarded directly by Cambridge International Education (CIE), providing an objective and independent record of achievement at both IGCSE and A Level.

At A Level, the results achieved by IOANID School students show that approximately 25% of grades are awarded at A–A*, with over 44% at A–A and more than 78% at A–B**, confirming a strong concentration of top grades within our overall results profile.

At IGCSE level, the results obtained by IOANID School students indicate that around 50% of grades are awarded at A–A*, reflecting a solid academic foundation and clear readiness for progression to Advanced Level study within the Cambridge pathway.
